Cosmetic fillings are used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, and so forth. When enough natural, healthy tooth is present, composite or cosmetic (white) fillings can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. In just one appointment, the decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed, cleaned, and filled. A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with the composite filling.
Are there more that one type of Cosmetic Fillings
There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. At Cox Family Dentistry, we primarily restore teeth with composite, however, we do offer silver amalgam fillings as well. Dr. Cox will discuss which option is best for you.
During your visit, your gums and teeth will be anesthetized with a local anesthetic near the site of the filling. Once the area is numb, the decayed or damaged portion of your teeth will be removed to make room for the new tooth-colored filling. A resin will be placed over the area and cured with a hand-held light for less than a minute. The new filling will then be shaped and polished before the procedure is complete.
