When most people think of October, the first thing that comes to mind is Halloween. And with that, comes Halloween candy! However, no one thinks about their teeth. In fact, they might not think about teeth at all except if a piece of Halloween candy does some unexpected damage. That’s where we’re a little different. At our dental office in Plano, Texas, when we think of October, we think of National Dental Hygiene Month, our dental hygienists, and their dedication to keeping patients’ mouths healthy. So this month, we want to highlight our 3 amazing dental hygienists.
First, we have Doris. Doris received her Dental Hygiene license with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Wichita State University in Kansas. She has also held a license in Illinois, as well as presently in Texas.
She enjoys her hygiene career to the fullest! She likes to get to know patients and build long-term relationships and friendships, as she has with so many patients in this office. It’s exciting for her to see the practice growing and being so vibrant with new patients. Many new patients have been referred by happy members of the existing patient family. “There is nothing quite like the feeling of helping patients to have the experience of kind, gentle, excellent dental care!”
Outside of the practice, Doris enjoys her family, husband, Doug, her son and daughter, and their great spouses and families. She has 5 wonderful grandchildren. She also enjoys her church family and has found missions there that are very fulfilling. Travel, friends, reading, and gardening are on her list of fun past times.
Next, we have Shelby. Shelby chose the dental field because she wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to help people all over the world. She is very passionate about mission work and has served overseas on mission trips since 2010. Her very first trip was where she learned how desperate the need was for oral health internationally, and it became her focus to help even in the smallest of ways.
Shelby eventually found a similar need exists right here in the states, so she decided to fully pursue dentistry and quickly fell in love with all the aspects of being a dental hygienist! She loves this office and working for Dr. Cox because here she is allowed to focus solely on her passion for serving and helping our patients.
Providing the best care for our patients is always our number one priority and she wouldn’t have it any other way! Aside from mission work some of her other hobbies include traveling, hiking, golf, fitness, baking, and of course being loud and proud Aggie! Gig em’.
Last, we have Laurel. Laurel enjoys biking, cooking, hiking, reading, taking yoga classes, traveling, going out on the lake, and spending time with family and friends. Laurel has been in dentistry for two and a half years. She loves that dentistry is tactile and a way to care for people.
Laurel obtained her Bachelor’s in Communication Design at Texas Tech and thereafter she received her hygiene license at Tyler Junior College. She has been with Cox Family Dentistry for about a year and a half now. She likes that we strive to provide the best in care and we value our relationships with our patients.
She enjoys learning new skills and taking CE classes to stay up-to-date with the latest technology in the hygiene field. Something you may not know about Laurel is she had a canvas stretching business at Canton 1st Monday several years ago, she had to learn about woodworking as well.
