Summer typically means it’s time for a family vacation. It’s warm and the kids are out of school. But before you leave, we want to give you a few tips and reminders about taking care of your oral health while you’re away from home.
Schedule an Appointment For The Whole Family Before You Go
You want to ensure that everyone is happy and in good oral health before you leave. The last thing anyone wants while on vacation is for your fun to be interrupted by a toothache or dental emergency. Depending on where you go on your vacation, it might be hard to get proper dental treatment. You’ll save yourself a major potential hassle by simply scheduling a dental appointment before you leave! We will do a quick dental checkup and cleaning to be sure you are cavity-free before you leave. If you plan on flying or scuba diving we can also check any crowns and fillings to make sure they are not loose.
Watch What You Eat While On Vacation
Who are we kidding…food is one of the best parts about going on vacation. However, eating and drinking a ton of sugary treats can cause cavities. Try to limit the number of sweets if possible. Try to avoid any overly sticky or hard food like taffy or hard candy. Also, remember to rinse your mouth with water after eating if you are not near a toothbrush. This can help clean out any food bits that were left behind.
Don’t Forget To Brush And Floss
Speaking of using a toothbrush, it is always important to brush twice a day and floss once a day. When you are on vacation, you are off your normal, daily routine. Make sure to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss when you go, and even set some reminders on your phone to ensure you don’t forget. And, before you pack to leave, let your toothbrush dry before you pack it. When wet, damp, and in an enclosed space, your toothbrush can grow bacteria. Yuck!
